Rain, Rain Thunderstorm! Yaaay! It was pouring all night. The electricity surged once, but it was back on before I woke up. | | Friday, February 20th, 2009 | | 7:19 pm |
BSG We are midway through S3 of BSG reruns. I'll want to rewatch the first half of S4, since so much went over my head the first time. Hopefully we'll get 4.5 sometime next month, although I'm debating reading spoilers since ( spoilers )I am basically really speculating in thin air, but I'm actually really looking forward to the sequel, because I want to know more about how the Cylons were designed and created, to see if it matches up to my speculation. I am also wondering whether I should make BSG Sims to integrate into my crossover neighborhood, and if so, who I should pick. I usually pick families of characters that I feel were a bit neglected. For instance, Alex Rousseau is living with her mother and has just had twins, who I named Valentine and Theodore. The most family-like structures in BSG are the least neglected, except... Hmm. I don't know. | | Thursday, February 12th, 2009 | | 10:02 pm |
Elections So, the elections were on Tuesday. I kept planning to update and not doing it, mostly because I was taking advantage of my day off. So, long hot shower and BSG marathon. Not simultaneously, you pervert, get your mind out of the gutter etc. etc. Per the results, we still don't know who the PM is going to be, and can't be completely sure what the coalition will be like. The bad news is that what passes for the left wing is greatly weakened, and the right wing parties collectively hold just over half the Knesset. The right wing, however, is far from cohesive. The other good news is that Kadima got 30 seats; fifteen years ago, a candidate who supports the two-state solution wouldn't be at the head of the largest party in the country, and possibly PM as well. I'm not really optimistic. The system is still pretty stagnant, and the Knesset is very divided. A stable coalition is going to be difficult to put together. I don't know if even a moderate coalition would be stable enough to move things. That's where the stagnancy comes from. The only really good news is that it was pouring rain most of Tuesday (I got caught on the way back from voting) which is good for the water levels. Still a drought, though. On a smellier note, I need to do a laundry and I'm way too lazy. Damn me and my lack of motivation. | | Saturday, February 7th, 2009 | | 3:26 pm |
Bleh Sometimes I just hate the world and everyone in it. | | Monday, February 2nd, 2009 | | 11:00 am |
Universe, You Win OKAY, GUYS. I give up. Via this (very nice) image of a glass swan sculpture, I found out that Wikimedia Commons has a category for shapes resembling the number 2. INTERNET. You WIN. Current Mood: enthralled | | Saturday, January 31st, 2009 | | 8:40 pm |
Rain! Holy shit, it's pouring outside! It's about damn time, too. This winter has been horribly dry. | | Friday, January 30th, 2009 | | 1:52 pm |
Vampire T-Rex I woke up just recently feeling quite like shit, but now I'm drinking tea and I'm better. I think I haven't had coffee since Sunday morning. Also, I've been having freaking weird dreams. Let me record the most recent one, before I forget it: ( Read more... )Then I woke up. I worry for my mental health. Sick I was down with a throat infection for three days, which I spent sprawled on the sofa at my parents' house. I am still quite congested but I'm going back to work tomorrow. I'm not coughing, and it's only one day until the weekend. Surprisingly I did not spend the entire time I was sick playing The Sims 2, as I was exhausted and slept a lot instead. And drank tea. And went to the doctor, only to return exhausted from the exertion of being out of the house for... two or three hours. Bleh.
Being sick is no more like a vacation now than it was when I was in school. Otherwise, work is going quite well. I just get tired sometimes, not for sleep but for play. | | Saturday, January 24th, 2009 | | 7:30 pm |
Spoilers Spoilers for X-Factor via scans_daily. ( Read more... ) | | 3:41 pm |
Fallen Angel Fallen angel is not ending. Yay. It is being restarted in a new volume, which I totally don't get. Not sure what to do with Runaways. I wanted to give the new guy a chance, but he just does not get it. This month's package was mostly lackluster. Everything was okay, but nothing great or exciting, nothing that I was dying to read as soon as I opened it. | | Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 | | 9:51 pm |
Comics! Got this month's comics! Read four last night, four today, and one (BtVS) left for Friday. I would've heard about it if Fallen Angel was ending, though, right? It did say "to be concluded" but that could just mean the Moloch storyline. Kind of ambivalent about Supergirl because there was no previouslies text and I'm not quite sure what's going on. I don't know about the others. I love FA but most of it just left me kind of cold, nothing wowed me. In other comics, though, Mitra Farmand is kinda awesome and is totally going on my regular rotation. With Lesbian Pirates on hiatus and Butterfly updating once every other month or so, I was really craving something new. So, go scans_daily for bringing the cute and funny. It's still freaking cold, though. | | Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 | | 5:44 pm |
TV News YES! Finally! Lost airs on Hot a mere three days after airing in the US, an improvement over last season's five days. I get the premiere this Saturday. No news on BSG yet, but between YouTube webisode comments, IO9 tipoffs and a political blog (of all places), I've accumulated a spoiler and a half at least. They're rerunning at a rate of five chapters a week, being halfway through S2 at present, that's another ten weeks or about two and a half months before we get the final season. BSG OKAY. OKAY. I'm not reading spoilers. I don't want to know who the Final Cylon is. Just tell me Felix is okay.
...Someone? | | Saturday, January 17th, 2009 | | 6:44 pm |
BSG. OMG. The spoilers for BSG 4.5 are starting to pour in and OMG. I WANT TO READ THEM. I MUST NOT. But resisting temptation? Not my strong suit! Meanwhile, in season 2, I am up to the Pegasus arc. It's kind of funny watching it and already knowing some of the stuff from later on, because I watched season 4. Overall, though, I'd say it's not terribly funny. Woo! They found someone I want to kick in the head more than Saul Tigh. Current Mood: curious | | Friday, January 16th, 2009 | | 3:23 pm |
Cats in the Apocalypse I slept something over twelve hours tonight, and woke up about a quarter of an hour ago. Right before I woke up, I dreamed about cats in some sort of an apocalypse. Pet cats, and they were running away from their owners. With their rugs. My brain is so weird. Then I woke up and found that I have that Christmas song with the pears stuck in my head. So now I put on some Grateful Dead, and I'm having breakfast and trying to decide what to do with my weekend.
Because, you see, my life is so geeky that my computer games are compromising my BSG marathon. *Nod* I really do love BSG, though. Even if watching 4-5 episodes in a row nearly makes my heart pop with nervousness.

Apocalypse I am a captive of the effect. This is the second night in a row where I was up well past midnight, and well after I'd planned, because just one. more day! My apocalypse challenge! It's going so well! I'm in the last semester of senior year! There is always one more goal after the last one, and they're close enough together that I can easily say, "Well, one more won't take that long. I'll go to sleep at midnight, like a good girl, because I have work tomorrow." Then I say the same thing every half-hour or so. Then I stay awake for another half-hour or so, because I can't get the game out of my head and I'm planning ahead the gameplay. I will kick the apocalypse challenge's ass, though. | | Friday, January 9th, 2009 | | 12:22 pm |
Coltural Identity Test I was somewhat pleased with the results, although they only represent a part of what I think about this complicated issue. There's a huge tension between cultural heritage and modernism, in my daily life as well as in the lives of many (most) people I know. Mostly it's a question I don't have an answer to. Definitely a miss on the modern ideas, as they are not monolithic and I am not singularly hostile to them as the test results suggest. I feel that the test writer has not completely hidden his bias against modern culture (as opposed to traditional). Some parts of the test challenged me. I could not list my ethnicity as there was not one on the list with which I identified. Also, while many of the questions were suitably generic, a few of them emphasized Anglo, American or Anglo-American aspects that made it difficult for me to address them from my point of view. Overall I was fascinated, but couldn't shake the feeling that the quiz was coming from a point of view opposite to my own. ( Results ) | | Monday, January 5th, 2009 | | 12:19 am |
Sims... Images I started posting image updates about my Sims at impromptusims. Warning: the individual entries, though LJ-cut, are very image-heavy. | | Friday, January 2nd, 2009 | | 12:51 pm |
Happy 2009 So New Year's Eve was great. We met late (I got there early) and after wandering for a while, finally found a bar with some room. There was a cover charge, but it was for the first round of drinks and some free champagne at midnight. The music was that type of awful techno beat that always gets on everybody's nerves (some people more than others) but soon we were tipsy and cheerful enough that we didn't care. We made a bunch of silly toasts (to Russell's paradox! To Martha Jones! To chips!) and eventually left and settled at a nearby friends' apartment. I would have liked to host the thing at my place, since usually the city center is a nightmare on holidays, including New Year's Eve, and private parties allow us all to be unselfconciously silly. I didn't dance, for example. But my apartment is a mess and I didn't get a chance to clean it beforehand. Maybe next year. Last year we were at my parents' house, and even though we were a small party it was awesome and cheerful. Next year it will be on a Thursday, so we won't even have to worry about work/school the next day, hopefully. I'm not sure how late the others stayed, but I ducked home at about three thirty because I was falling asleep. I slept about four or five hours, I think, and then went to work and managed to work all day with very little incident. All in all, a raving success. Oh, and a drunk straight girl hit on my at the bar. It was weird. But other than that, everything was cool. Today I need to get my act together so that I can shower and get dressed on time to do some shopping before I go to my parents', since the house it utterly empty of food and such. Ah, life. I wonder when I'll get used to it being 2009. Current Music: Yehudit Ravitz | | Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 | | 5:36 pm |
On Family This appears to be it. That is, my great-grandfather's surname before it was Anglicized to Silver. |
